In collaboration with the New York Mycological Society, join us for a walk through Central Park to search for wild and native fungi.
No prior knowledge of mushrooms is required, just curiosity and a sharp eye. Kids of all ages are always welcome, as are leashed, well-behaved dogs.
We highly recommend using the iNaturalist app to document the fungi you find. Find out how to use it here.
We are not foraging for edibles (it is prohibited in New York City parks and many other parks), but we are more than happy to educate you on how to recognize popular edibles as well as their poisonous lookalikes. For this reason, we discourage people from bringing baskets – it can risk a fine.
About the New York Mycological Society
Founded by John Cage, The New York Mycological Society is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to raising the public awareness, appreciation and knowledge of fungi. We believe that passionate, knowledgeable amateurs are important contributors to science and fungal conservation.
