The show will be on view from January 15 through February 19, 2023. A Reception with the artists, to be held on January 17 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, will feature remarks by the Rev. Carmel Fromson has been photographing great works of art – paintings, sculpture, silver, glass and jewelry – for 30 years. Her professional background encompasses 19 years as staff photographer at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, two years as staff photographer at the Cooper Hewitt Museum, and project photographer at the Corcoran Gallery. Fromson is Chair of the Fountain House Gallery Advisory Board, a Fountain House Council member and former Board member. She is the 2022 recipient of the Esther Montanez Leadership Award, established in memory of Fountain House Gallery's Founding Director. Fromson is also a longtime member of Heavenly Rest.
Each of the nearly 60 Fountain House Gallery artists featured in the show has selected a representative piece of their artwork to complement the portrait. The portraits were shot during several sessions held over the past year.
TBD: Selected Fountain House Gallery artists will participate in a virtual panel discussion, followed by a brief Q&A. The artists will discuss their work and art practice. Please visit the Fountain House Gallery website for date and details.
About Fountain House Gallery
Fountain House Gallery and Studio supports the careers, creative visions, and recovery of artists living with serious mental illness. Founded by Fountain House in 2000, the Gallery sells original artworks and collaborates with a wide network of artists, curators, and cultural institutions. The Studio, located in Long Island City, is a collaborative workspace that furthers the professional practice of our artists. Embracing artists who are emerging or established, trained or self-taught, Fountain House Gallery cultivates artistic growth, makes a vital contribution to the New York arts community, and challenges the stigma surrounding mental illness.
