New York – January 25, 2012 – Fountain Gallery, the premier venue in New York City representing artists with mental illness, has announced that for the seventh year it will participate in the Outsider Art Fair, which is celebrating its 20th year as the world’s showcase annual event in the outsider/self taught art field. The Fair will be held on January 27 through January 29, 2012, with a Preview on January 26, at the venue 7W, located at 7 West 34th Street in Manhattan. Works by Fountain Gallery artists will be on view at Booth C3. For more information about the Outsider Art Fair, please visit: www.SanfordSmith.com.

Among the works by Fountain Gallery artists to be spotlighted at the Fair are: acrylics by the late Gary Brent Hilsen, whose paint application technique lends his bold, sensuous works the texture of watercolor and oil; Paula Isaac’s naturalistic scenes of home and family; Nelia Gibbs’s haunting depictions of isolated individuals in stark rooms; and the late Dick Lubinsky’s mixed media works, which received critical praise as part of the yearlong exhibition Life, Liberty & the Pursuit of Happiness at the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore.

On view at Fountain Gallery during the Outsider Art Fair and through March 7: MAKE BELIEVE., a group exhibition featuring 50 works by 21 artists with mental illness from four New York City-based non-profit organizations: Fountain Gallery, HAI, The Living Museum, and Services for the UnderServed. MAKE. BELIEVE. is curated by Frank Maresca, co-owner of Ricco/Maresca Gallery. For more than 30 years, Maresca has championed the work of artists communicating outside the academic mainstream. Fountain Gallery is located at 702 Ninth Avenue.
