Fountain House Gallery Presents “Animal Impact” Group Show

Curated by Heather Cammarata-Seale

On view: June 25 – August 12, 2015 Reception: June 25, 6-8 p.m.

NEW YORK CITY – Fountain House Gallery (formerly Fountain Gallery), located at
702 Ninth Avenue and representing artists living with mental illness, announces the upcoming group show “Animal Impact.” The exhibition will open with a Reception on June 25, 2015, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and will remain on view through August 12, 2015. “Animal Impact” is curated by Heather Cammarata-Seale.

“For this show, I asked the talented artists of Fountain House Gallery to create work that takes into consideration their individual, as well as mankind’s, bond with animals,” said Cammarata-Seale, Curator for the Corporate Art Program at Johnson & Johnson. “Some artists chose to tell stories about our emotionally-charged relationships with animals while others chose to comment on the artificial nature of these interactions. Issues of intimacy and distance, nature and culture, as well as domesticity and urbanity run through these works, demonstrating that although the rapport between man and animal has evolved in positive ways, it is still marked by contradiction.”

“Animal Impact” spotlights more than 40 works. Among the mediums represented are acrylic, oil, and watercolor painting, drawing, sculpture, collage, and digital photography.

The show’s featured artists are: Susan Baus, Lorrie Berman, Laurel Burns, Alix Cesar, Martin Cohen, Osvaldo Cruz, Ann Fischman, Nelia Gibbs, Ariella Kadosh, Mercedes Kelly, Alesha Lutz, Monica Mei, George Penon, Kathy Pieper, Lawrence Rothschild, Gail Shamchenko, Bernard Stote, Robin Taylor, Maura Terese, and Alyson Vega.

This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, and by generous support from the Jarvis & Constance Doctorow Family Foundation, the Renate, Hans and Maria Hofmann Trust, and the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation.
