Fountain House Gallery Presents “Rigged Society/Organized Chaos”
Online Exhibition Spotlights Collaborative and Individual Works by Sasha P.W. & Don'aë Tate

On view: February 26 – May 26, 2021

NEW YORK CITY – Fountain House Gallery – the premier venue in New York City representing artists with mental illness – today announced the upcoming Rigged Society/Organized Chaos, an online exhibition featuring collaborative and individual works by self-taught artists Sasha P.W. and Don'aë Tate. The show, which is curated by the artists, will be presented from February 26, 2021 through April 14, 2021, at: https://www.artsy.net/show/fountain-house-gallery-rigged-society-slash-organized-chaos?sort=partner_show_position.

“Our partnership evolved at Fountain House Studio before the pandemic, when we were both relatively new to the program,” said the artists in a joint statement. “As we became familiar with each other’s art- making process, we discovered the styles that we would bring to the project. We agreed that the show’s title and overall theme should reflect a political bent, conveying our view of art as an agent of struggle and inclusion, as well as commenting on societal structures and historical and situational injustices. Another goal was that each piece speak for itself, regardless of whether it was created by one or both of us. We now share the same philosophical space as outsiders with a vision of the world in common, having arrived at this place from widely divergent backgrounds. With our art as a vehicle, we wish  to convey the power of transcendence over our mental illness through use of the gifts we bring as individuals.”

Among the acrylic on canvas and paper works presented in Rigged Society/Organized Chaos are political pieces underscoring the ways in which class, ethnicity, and technology have impacted the artists’ lives, and self-portraits of each. Of the 40 pieces included in the exhibition, 32 are individual works and eight are a product of the collaboration.

This program is funded, in part, by generous support from the Renate, Hans and Maria Hofmann Trust, the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, the David Rockefeller Fund, and the Laurie M. Tisch Illumination Fund.
