Fountain House Gallery Presents “BIFF! BAM! POW!”
Exhibition Showcases Contemporary Works in Tribute to Comic Books and Comic Book Art
On view: January 9 – February 19, 2025
Reception: January 9, 6-8pm
Curated by Marina Marchand
NEW YORK CITY – Fountain House Gallery – the premier venue in New York City representing artists living with mental illness – announces the exhibition BIFF! BAM! POW!, an exhibition showcasing contemporary works made in tribute to comic books and comic book art. The show will open with a reception at Fountain House Gallery on January 9, 2025, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, and will remain on view through February 19, 2025. Fountain House Gallery is located at 702 Ninth Avenue in Manhattan.
BIFF! BAM! POW! is curated by Fountain House Gallery artist Marina Marchand, who said, "lllustration for storytelling purposes can be traced back to cave paintings made more than 50,000 years ago, but comic books and comic strips are often not considered ‘serious’ art. With the advent of modern printing techniques, the work of talented artists and storytellers has appeared in newspapers and comic books featuring characters and subjects ranging from superheroes and pulp heroes to romance and humor. This exhibition was conceived as a tribute to the medium and to groundbreaking artists and their genres, ranging from the likes of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, Chester Gould, Bob Kane and Bill Finger, to Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, John Romita, Frank Miller, Bruce Timm and Alan Moore, and other comic masters who have shaped these worldwide art forms.”
This program is funded, in part, by generous support from the Laurie M. Tisch Illumination Fund, the Lily Auchincloss Foundation, and the Renate, Hans and Maria Hofmann Trust.
