Fountain House Gallery & Studio Presents Open Studio at Expanded Space in Long Island City
NEW YORK CITY – Fountain House Gallery & Studio – the premier venue in New York City representing artists living with mental illness – announces an Open Studio, to be held on Thursday, November 7, 2024, 6-8pm. The event will take place at Fountain House Studio in the historic Silks Building in Long Island City, NY, located at 37-24 24th Street, Suite 012. The Studio formerly occupied a smaller suite in the Silks Building.
“As we move into the season of gratitude, we at Fountain House Studio have much to be grateful for and much to celebrate,” said Studio Director Karen Gormandy. “Since relocating to this larger space, our five permanent resident artists have continued to produce work that delights and awes. These five permanent artists have been joined by our spring, summer and fall rotating resident artists. Participation has doubled, and this shows on the Studio walls, arrayed with a wealth of textures and a burst of colors. Our artists are motivated and inspired, and they motivate and inspire each other. We are grateful to our supporters, without whom we would not have achieved this milestone.”
Established in 2017, Fountain House Studio is a dedicated studio space available to all Fountain House members – from beginners exploring their creativity to artists who have sold their work. The Studio provides the resources, training, inspiration, and support that member-artists need to succeed in the highly competitive art world. Members have full-time access to the Studio and to materials that assist them in attaining a new level of creativity, expanding their marketable portfolios, and advancing their efforts to achieve broader name recognition and commercial success. At Fountain House Studio, artists living with mental illness work side by side with each other in a collaborative setting that reduces isolation and fosters a supportive community.
The artists whose work will be on view at the November 7 event are: Christine Albane, Bernadette Corcoran, Lauren Covey, AG Davis, Roger Jones, Suzette Lehrer, Anna Macon, Tanya Nickolan, Maxx Reith, Aracelis Rivera, Angela Rogers, Tom Schneider, Arturo Sitjar, Bradford Scott Stringfield, Alyson Vega, and Vermillion.
This program is funded, in part, by generous support from the Laurie M. Tisch Illumination Fund, the Lily Auchincloss Foundation, and the Renate, Hans and Maria Hofmann Trust.
