Terrenceo Hammonds
A self-described "military brat" born in Oklahoma, Terrenceo began drawing and making collages in early childhood. Although largely self-taught, he studied for a time at California Institute of the Arts and holds a BA from Long Beach State University with a major in African American studies and a minor in Art. Among the mediums in which he works are acrylic, digital art, and graffiti street art, and he has presented street performance art internationally. Terrenceo often depicts in his pieces contemporary themes that examine social development, with a particular focus on the experience of the African American male.
In the 1990s, Terrenceo worked as a scenic artist, set designer, and art director in the Hollywood film industry. He then spent a decade as a professional artist, exhibiting with Gallery in Motion, North Hollywood Gallery, and the prominent underground gallery Zero One. From 2006 to 2015, he exhibited at the influential Bedlam Gallery in what is now the LA Arts District, in shows curated by the renowned Jim Fittipaldi. In New York, Terrenceo has shown at Lambert Fine Arts Gallery; in London, at Studio 77; in Miami, at Art Basel and in select exhibitions at the Pool Art Fair, the Fountain Art Fair, and the Artists Take Over Outsider Art Fair.
