Ashwood (A.K.) is a First Nation Inuit native born in the Canadian province of Labrador and Newfoundland (a country apart from Canada until after World War II) – whose people are known for their fur coats and carved totem poles across northern North America, from Greenland to Alaska. An avid artmaker since childhood, Ashwood works primarily in oil and acrylic on canvas. His work has been exhibited at the Tate Museum in an exhibition that traveled to prominent venues worldwide, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Schirn Kunsthalle (Frankfurt), and the Kunsthalle Wien (Vienna). Ashwood holds a BS in International Economics and Finance from Babson College and plays all brass musical instruments. A self-taught artist, he is also “self-taught” in NY State and federal law: Without attending law school, he passed the NY State Bar Exam, practiced music and arts law for nearly 40 years, and was a professor of Intellectual Property in an MBA program for New York City media executives. He recently produced a two-act play spotlighting the plight of women artists such as Helen Frankenthaler and Elaine de Kooning in the patriarchal art world of drugs and alcohol that launched the Abstract Expressionist movement. He now aims to bring the show to Broadway.

Proceeds from sales of art go directly to the artist.
