Madeleine's artistic talents were first discovered in childhood by her Aunt Jackie, an artist, who has encouraged her ever since. Making art has been a soothing and healing hands-on exploration for Madeleine, whose preferred mediums include graphite, ink, and water-soluble paint on paper. She holds a BA from Smith College, and BFA and MFA degrees with honors from School of Visual Arts. She is also a graduate of Teachers College, Columbia University, which awarded her an MA in Art and Art Education. Madeleine has exhibited her work in group shows at New York City venues such as Ronald Feldman Gallery, Exit Art, and School of Visual Arts Galleries. Her artist books are included in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Bowdoin College, and Center for Book Arts.
