Join Fountain House Gallery on June 2 to celebrate the opening of our newest exhibition, "SEEN: Portraits of Fountain House Artists"
Carmel Fromson has been photographing great works of art – paintings, sculpture, silver, glass and jewelry – for 30 years. Her professional background encompasses 19 years as staff photographer at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, two years as staff photographer at the Cooper Hewitt Museum, and project photographer at the Corcoran Gallery. Fromson is Chair of the Fountain House Gallery Advisory Board, a Fountain House Council member and former Board member. She is the 2022 recipient of the Esther Montanez Leadership Award, established in memory of Fountain House Gallery’s Founding Director. The Award will be presented at an event titled “Rise,” Fountain House Gallery’s Art Auction & Benefit, to be held on June 9, 2022, from 6:30pm to 9:30pm at Metropolitan Pavilion, located at 125 West 18th Street in Manhattan.
Said Fromson, “Fountain House Gallery artists are refreshingly honest, and it has been a great pleasure to celebrate them via portraits in which they will be ‘seen’ by the Fountain House community, and by the wider public. Many years ago, after the Gallery opened its doors in 2000, I was asked to photograph 10 works by 10 artists. I went into the project assuming that this was an art therapy program, but I was astonished by the quality of the work and came to the realization that this is not a ‘social work’ project; these are proficient contemporary artists.”
