Born Oluwaseyi Benjamin Ayinde in Manhattan, Shey has been an avid doodler since childhood. By the time he graduated from high school, he had amassed more than a thousand drawings and fashion sketches, having discovered in art a refuge from fears and personal difficulties. He realized his dream of attending the renowned School of Visual Arts but was forced to leave school due to his mental illness. Even while heavily medicated, Shey attempted to draw and credits making a certain piece of art as marking the first step in his recovery. With renewed motivation, he continued making art and was gratified when he sold a piece. Shey was further inspired when his work began receiving “likes” on Instagram, including positive responses from established galleries and collectors.
