Maybellene is an autistic artist and poet living in Brooklyn, New York. Despite struggling with mental health issues and learning differences, she was able to earn a bachelor’s degree in Creative Writing with a minor in Studio Art. For Maybellene, creative self-expression has been crucial in helping her to process her emotions and engage with others. She has had art and poetry published in Poetry South, Wall Street International magazine, The White Fish Review, and Art BreakOUT. Her artwork was displayed at Arts Unbound, Chesnut Gallery, and One Art Space. When not creating art or writing, she enjoys reading, viewing YouTube art channels, and watching “The Golden Girls.” Maybellene was the subject of a “Brief but Spectacular” profile on PBS NewsHour.
